Yenkee

Yenkee is a six-piece Pop band formed from the lo-fi bedroom recordings of Cork artist Graham Cooney. Inspired by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Rostam Batmanglij and Michael Jackson, they began work on their debut album after dropping out of university. Yenkee combine jangly guitars, funky bass lines and Cher-esque vocals to make sincere and soulful Pop. Their debut album is due out in Spring 2019.

“Cooney has released music under his own name in the past but has gone pop in a big way under the Yenkee moniker. ‘Are You Alright?’, their debut single, written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Cooney, features a call-and-response chorus – “Are you alright? Cos I’ve been feeling better” – and familiar refrains about not getting a job and lovelife frustrations. It all plays out over a twitching fuzzy guitar and RnB backing track. It’s infectious.” – TPOE

“Cork artist Graham Cooney aka Yenkee plus friends has released all-killer, no-filler tracks this year – ‘Are You Alright?‘ is one of my songs of the year while the debonair ‘Lander’ followed a couple of months back. Their smooth side has been shined even brighter on their third release of 2018, ‘Freedom’. Cooney’s in reflective mood, confessing “I never knew how love could be, I was taking a ride” as he tries “to get back to you again” – TPOE
